Founded in 1881, Seiko watches have built a reputation for precision, reliability and excellence in advancing technology. Although Seiko's technological expertise has seen them expand into a number of diverse fields, watches remain at the heart of its business.
Seiko watches have often been revolutionary, with significant advancements including the creation of Japan's first wristwatch in 1913 to the world's first quartz watch in 1969. Seiko currently manufactures some of the sporting world's most advanced watches, with the ‘Sportura' range of all star chronographs built to perform at the highest level of motor sport. It is watches like these that have seen Seiko become the official timekeeper at a range of international sports events, with Seiko watches keeping time at a number of sporting triumphs from the 1969 Tokyo Olympic Games onward.
Separate from its Sportura range, Seiko has hit upon another advancement in watchmaking with its ‘Kinetic' range of watches. Featuring the first watch to be powered by human movement, Seiko ‘Kinetic' watches utilise watch movements that are powered by alternative sources to batteries. One example is the Seiko ‘Kinetic Perpetual', a high-class watch that sets a new standard in perpetual calendar watches with the world's smallest ultra-sonic motor (0.4mm thick) being the sole motive source for its calendar. The Seiko ‘Kinetic Perpetual' watch incorporates exclusive Auto-Relay technology so, if not worn, the watch can go into ‘sleep' mode for up to 4 years.
